The Challenge:
Florida’s Department of Education (FDOE) identified a critical need to support aspiring school leaders through more accessible, evidence-based mentorship and competency development. Existing programs varied widely across districts, and many lacked a consistent, standards-aligned method for candidates to demonstrate readiness for administrative licensure. The challenge was to modernize and unify leadership preparation statewide—without disrupting the unique structures of each local program.
What We Did:
TEG partnered with FDOE to develop and pilot a Leadership Competency Program built on the ReadyLXP platform. Designed to enhance—not replace—local L1 and L2 leadership pathways, the program delivered:
- A modular library of micro-credentials aligned to Florida’s leadership standards.
- A digital environment that enabled mentorship, artifact collection, and performance reflection.
- Support for flexible, district-led implementation, with tools for customization by experience level and local goals.
- A coaching layer that allowed mentors to give real-time feedback and track participant progress.
The pilot involved:
- 85 learners and 16 mentors across 8 districts and university-based programs
- A 12-week cycle with 16 competency-based activities and 2 full assessments
- Individualized guidance for program leaders to align use with their existing models
The TEG team facilitated focus groups, provided training, and gathered feedback through surveys, interviews, and direct mentoring sessions.
The Result:
- Overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants: 100% of learners receiving mentor feedback rated it “helpful” or “very helpful”; 90%+ found the platform easy to navigate and the content relevant to their leadership goals; and learners appreciated the “bite-sized,” flexible design of the learning activities
- District leaders saw potential for wide application: Used in lieu of course finals (UF), as field experience credit (FSU), or integrated into personalized pathways (St. Lucie, Pinellas, Martin)
- The platform supported both formative learning and performance-based evidence collection—key for licensure readiness
- TEG and FDOE agreed to explore a statewide expansion for the 2022–23 school year
